Opioid Resources

The Alaska Dental Society has developed guidelines for its members to aid in the proper prescribing of opioids and alternative pain control methods.  We welcome other prescribers to utilize the guide where appropriate.  Please direct any questions on the guideline, usage of the prescription database (AKPDMP), or prescriptions in general to Dr. Logan

A reminder all prescribers with a DEA registration number (can write for controlled substances) must register with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.  The application must be done online at https://alaska.pmpaware.net/identities/new and you will be required to verify your identity and email address.

For the 2019-20 license renewal period a minimum of 2hrs of CE is required for licensees who hold a DEA number in  "education in pain management and opioid use and
addiction".  ADS will offer online courses in December and January for dentists who still need the required CE for license renewal.  course dates are:
December 11th 6:00PM (Tuesday)
December 15th 9:00AM (Saturday)
January 7th 6:00PM (Monday)
January 10th 6:00PM (Thursday)

All courses will last approximately 90 minutes and require preregistration.  Contact the ADS office at 907.563.3003 to register.

The ADA also has a manual on prescribing and addiction with a 5 hr CE self study test.  Visit http://ebusiness.ada.org/productcatalog/product.aspx?ID=8349 to order.
